Milano Design Week’24: Novelties From Cappellini

At Milano Design Week, Cappellini introduced a range of exciting new designs that showcase the brand’s innovative spirit and commitment to contemporary design. The collection features a mix of bold new creations and fresh takes on classic pieces, blending artistry with functionality and reinforcing Cappellini’s status as a leader in modern design.

Let’s take a look at the main novelties of Cappellini during Milano Design Week 2024.

FLOE BY DAISUKE KITAGAWA

For the Floe series of service tables, the Japanese designer Daisuke Kitagawa, founder of Design for Industry studio, tried to revolutionize the idea of living room table by making it even more functional and extremely customizable: the tops, made of smoky grey or black and white back-painted glass, can be freely positioned by the users to reorganize the spaces according to their different needs.

Available in two dimensions, the Floe service tables feature a structure made of squared metal tube with chromed finish and a fixed base with a mirror finish, which conveys an effect of extreme visual lightness. The name of the product, literally «mass of floating ice», is a refence to the effect of the glass tops and the game of reflections they crate with the mirror base, as if they were floating like the ice of the iceberg in the ocean.

X TABLE SYSTEM BY HSIANG HAN HSU

All the Eastern poetry of young Taiwanese designer Hsiang Han Hsu, founder of a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Taipei, is reflected in the collection of tables and service tables X Table System.

The top of these tables, made of extra clear glass or black high-pressure laminate, lays on an injection-molded plastic base, inspired by the geometric structures found in nature, able to guarantee excellent strength and stability.

The design of X Table System leverages on the concept of modularity: the base is made by assembling fiberglass and nylon components, partly new and partly recycled, thus expanding the product’s lifespan through easy repairs, and reducing production costs and resource consumption.

MILLEPIEDI BY DIMORESTUDIO

Sinuous lines and Eastern elegance perfectly blend in the Millepiedi bookshelf, spin-off of the homonymous table designed by Dimorestudio in 2023. The weight-bearing structure, which resembles the table, is made of thick metal tubes available in three different finishes: chromed, matt varnished in black colour or matt varnished in black colour with satin brass inserts.

The wooden shelves of Millepiedi bookshelf, matte or glossy lacquered in all the colour from the collection, are slightly tapered and characterised by round and blunt profiles which give the product a light and extremely sophisticated look.

CLASSICA BY PIERO LISSONI

Originally designed by Piero Lissoni in 1996, the Classica chair re-enters the Cappellini catalog in a revised version: compared to its ancestor, this model features a more massive and imposing structure, but an equal aesthetic lightness.

The Classica chair, available with or without armrests, is made of solid cherry or ash wood in oak-stained, black-stained or red-stained finish; the seat features a fixed upholstery in a selection of fabrics and leathers from the collection.

LUD’O SOFA BY PATRICIA URQUIOLA

The Lud’o family designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cappellini expands its range of upholstered furniture with the addition of Lud’o Sofa, a system of free-standing sofas and modular seating elements designed to fit any kind of environment, be it a contract or a residential one. The generous shapes of the padding create a soft and welcoming shelter, bolstering the extreme comfort that characterizes the other products of the same family.

All modules of the Lud’o Sofa rest upon four feet made of solid mahogany or ash wood, in a bleached or black-stained finish. As for the other upholstered products of the Lud’o family, also in this case the cover is removable in a selection of fabrics from the collection.

LUD’O TABLE BY PATRICIA URQUIOLA

After the successful creative idea of the Lud’o Lounge armchair, the Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola designs for Cappellini the new collection Lud’o Table.

Available in two different dimensions, these living room service tables feature a conical metal base, evoking the original design of the armchair, with embossed powdered coating in a selection of colours. The round tops of these tables are made of wood, matt lacquered in a wide range of shades that can be freely combined with the colours of the base. For the higher version, the Lud’o Table is characterised by a bi-colour finish: the upper part of the base column always follows the same finish as the top.

PINCH BY NENDO

Pinch is a collection of service tables which best expresses all the poetry and lightness of Japanese design studio Nendo, able to design extremely contemporary objects characterized by absolute simplicity.

Small, light, and easy to move, the Pinch table collection perfectly describes the measure of Japanese gesture: great control, great sophistication. Each table features the designer’s signature and the Cappellini logo, engraved under the top of the tray.

BOTTLE BY BARBER OSGERBY

The Bottle table, originally designed by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby in 2007 and winner of the prestigious Wallpaper* Design Award in the same year, gets back into the Cappellini catalogue in the version with a round tabletop, slightly tapered to create an effect of extreme visual lightness. The base clearly recalls the shape of a bottle, hence the name of the product.

Crafted entirely from white Carrara or black Marquinia marble, the Bottle table is also available in a bi-colour version, combining the two marble colours shades for the top and the base.
